Prep & Aftercare
A little prep before your appointment and the right routine afterward both make a real difference — helping your color apply evenly, develop beautifully, and last longer.
Prep
- 01Exfoliate the day before
- Gently exfoliate your entire body about 24 hours before your appointment, focusing on dry areas like your elbows, knees, ankles, hands, and feet. Avoid harsh exfoliation that could irritate the skin.
- 02Shave or wax ahead of time
- Shave the day before when possible. If waxing, schedule it at least 24–48 hours before your spray tan so your skin has time to recover.
- 03Arrive clean + product-free
- Shower beforehand and arrive with completely dry skin. Do not apply lotion, body oil, sunscreen, deodorant, perfume, makeup, or other skincare products before your appointment unless instructed otherwise.
- 04Plan beauty services first
- Whenever possible, complete manicures, pedicures, facials, massages, waxing, and other beauty treatments before your spray tan. Water, oils, lotions, exfoliation, and friction from these services can affect your tan.
- 05Dress for your tan
- Wear loose, dark clothing and easy-to-slip-on shoes. Avoid tight clothing that could rub against your freshly applied color.
- 06Avoid sweat + water
- After your appointment, avoid sweating, swimming, showering, or getting wet until your recommended first-rinse time.
“Great spray tan results are a team effort. Proper prep before your appointment and good aftercare afterward can make a huge difference in how beautifully your tan develops, wears, and fades.”

Aftercare
- 01Follow your rinse time
- Your first rinse will typically be around 4 hours after your appointment, but Aubree will give you your recommended rinse time based on your tan. Follow that timing carefully for the best finished color.
- 02Keep your first rinse gentle
- Use lukewarm water and avoid scrubbing or exfoliating. Rinse until the water runs clear and gently pat—not rub—your skin dry. Don’t worry if you see lots of color washing away; much of what you see is the temporary cosmetic bronzer, not your developed tan.
- 03Moisturize daily
- Hydration is one of the most important parts of maintaining a spray tan. Apply a gentle, hydrating moisturizer at least once daily, or twice daily if your skin tends to be dry.
- 04Shave gently
- If you need to shave after your tan has developed and you’ve completed your first rinse, use a fresh, sharp razor, gentle shaving cream or gel, and light pressure. Avoid repeatedly shaving the same area and moisturize afterward.
- 05Limit exfoliation
- Avoid scrubs, exfoliating gloves, loofahs, and harsh exfoliating ingredients while maintaining your tan.
- 06Watch water + heat
- Very hot or long showers, saunas, hot tubs, chlorine, salt water, and prolonged swimming can cause your tan to fade faster. Moisturize well after swimming.
